1. Think of a good twitter handle – make sure it is brand related and easy to remember.
2. Create a visually appealing profile – take advantage of the header photo to express your brand (personality/product/etc) to your potential audience. Your profile picture can simply be your logo.
3. Create a descriptive bio – try to express your brand’s personality and use brand related keywords through this 160 character limit description. The keywords will help Twitter and search engines know who you are.

Build a Twitter Community

1. Tweet! – post short and sweet excerpts that your followers would like to see on their timeline. Ask questions, talk about your business, mention new products, and post pictures.
2. Start following and engaging with people – when you first start to follow people, it is a good idea to follow your customers, friends, colleagues, related business, influencers, and interesting/informative users.
3. Follow back – just like you want people to follow you back, make sure you follow your followers back.
4. Publicize your twitter – advertise your twitter on other social media platforms, include a ‘follow now’ button in your emails, add your twitter to your website, etc. You can also create an incentive for people to follow by telling them they will receive: quality updates, quality content, sales, deals, coupons, competitions, etc.

1. Optimize the timing of your tweets – because tweets are seen shortly after they are tweeted, you want to make sure you are tweeting at the right times. Generally, people are more likely to check their twitter in the early morning and after work (around 6 p.m.). 2. Use hashtags – hashtags allow everyone on twitter to see your tweet, instead of just your followers. In order to see which hashtags are trending you can type in your hashtag and view the results yourself, or use hashtag tools such as hashtags.org, Topsy, and Tweetreach which all potentially show you the trends behind a hashtag.
3. Keep your tweets short – Tweets of around 100 characters have a 17% higher engagement rate than Tweets with 140 characters.
4. Tweet images – people love anything that is visually engaging
5. Tweet multiple times a day – at least 3 times (morning, afternoon, and evening)
6. Use automation tools – to help you become more efficient on Twitter. You can use Twitter management tools such as Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, and Buffer.
7. Use analytics – definitely use analytics to see how successful you are. Buffer and Ritetag are examples of analytic tools that will measure your performance.
8. Create self-promoting and non-self-promoting tweets – there’s no set ratio for these kind of tweets, you have to use your best judgement based on your audience.
9. Create easily shareable content – so that your followers can share your content to their followers.
